This would be a session focused on introducing applications of technology like augmented reality, virtual reality, smartphone applications and artificial intelligence in GI education. Specifically, these technologies can have a useful role in the initial part of training GI fellows VR serves as a relatively low cost and adaptable way to provide a realistic environment in which to practice endoscopy prior to doing so on a patient. As a trainee advances, augmented reality can be used to provide remote mentoring and real time feedback on technique. Additionally augmented reality can serve to deliver information to interpret endoscopy findings in real time (through access to data repositories); smartphone applications can also bolster quick access to high yield information on endoscopy and GI consult management. In a somewhat separate but important application, these technologies can be used to introduce meditation and other relaxation techniques in a quick and accessible way to assist with burnout for GI fellows. Lastly, with the advent of AI in endoscopy we have the opportunity to leverage this technology to advance our current approach to endoscopy education.
