Society: AGA

The enteric nervous system (ENS), or the gut's brain, is responsible for executing motility and other functions in the gastrointestinal tract. Most of what we know about the ENS comes from animal studies, but there is a growing body of work performing basic science research using samples and recordings from humans. In this session, you will hear about the structural, molecular and functional properties of the human ENS, how these properties compare/contrast to what has been reported in animal models, and the implications for translational research and clinical practice.
