A variety of new developments in the realms of screening and surveillance of Barrett's esophagus have occurred in recent years. This session will focus on the current evidence base for risk assessment algorithms to enhance screening uptake, new screening tools and obstacles to implementation. In addition, the area of surveillance remains problematic. this session will look at alternatives to the Seattle protocol in terms of risk assessment and enhanced surveillance. Finally the role of artificial intelligence now and in the future will be addressed.

Current guidelines advise esophagectomy for submucosal esophageal adenocarcinoma (T1b EAC). However, data from retrospective studies suggest that endoscopic follow-up (FU) may be a valid alternative in patients without signs of lymph node metastases (LNM) at baseline…

BACKGROUND: Using EsoCheck (EC), a non-endoscopic balloon device for sampling the distal esophagus, coupled with EsoGuard (EG), a DNA based testing screening for Barrett’s esophagus (BE), we have previously reported high sensitivity and specificity for detection of BE among patients with known BE c…

Introduction: Shifts towards high-fat, low-fiber diets, may contribute to the rising incidence of esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC). In mice high-fat diet promotes EAC, possibly through effects on the gut microbiome and the systemic bile acid pool…
