Metaplasias can arise in response to mucosal injury or oncogenic gene alterations and potential precursors of GI cancer. The metaplasia is becoming a hot topic in both basic and clinical science fields. However, the prevalence of metaplasia in different GI organs is not been reported or well-discussed. Biological mechanisms of metaplasia progression are key factors which lead the metaplasia progression to neoplastic stages. This session is to discuss variabilities and rick factors that promote the evolution of metaplastic cell lineage plasticity in different GI organs. Commonality and differences of metaplastic cell lineages in different GI organs will also be a focus of this session.
