SOCIETY: AGA Optimal nutrition is essential to health and wellness and linked to outcomes of GI and liver diseases. However, gastroenterologists are not equipped with the nutrition knowledge/resources necessary to provide holistic care for patients with digestive diseases. Registered dieticians are experts in providing medical nutrition therapy that aligns with a patient's underlying medical conditions and can close gaps in nutrition education for gastroenterology trainees. Weight bias and stigma adversely affects medical care and it is important that gastroenterologists understand how to recognize and mitigate it in practice. Likewise, it is important that gastroenterologists are equipped with tools to teach learners about weight bias and how to provide weight inclusive care. The purpose of this session is to illustrate how attendees can enhance nutrition education through collaboration with registered dietitians and learn about weight bias and teach weight inclusivity in clinical practice.
