NYU Langone Health
Dr. Violeta Popov is the Director of Bariatric Endoscopy at the NY VA Harbor Healthcare System, and faculty at the Division of Gastroenterology, NYU Langone Medical Center. She serves on several national committees overseeing obesity research and education and is a member of the National VA Endoscopy Committee. At NYU, she spearheaded the first Bariatric Endoscopy program in a VA Medical Center in 2015 and since then has advised and helped initiate similar programs in many other hospitals. She currently chairs the VA Bariatric Endoscopy Taskforce. She trained in Gastroenterology at Yale New Haven Hospital, followed by a Ph.D. in Investigative Medicine from Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. There, she honed her skills under the mentorship of Dr. Gerald Schulman, a global authority on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. This experience ignited Dr. Popov's passion for research focused on obesity and its related metabolic complications, like nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Additionally, she is interested in optimizing bariatric endoscopy and surgery outcomes, and advocacy for diversity and inclusivity within the field of Gastroenterology.
