Dr. Amit Patel is a Gastroenterologist and Associate Professor at the Duke University School of Medicine and the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center. In recognition of his contributions to education and scholarship at Duke University, Dr. Patel has been awarded the Paul Killenberg Faculty Teaching and Malcolm Tyor Faculty Scholar Awards. Dr. Patel’s academic interests focus on the Esophagus, particularly esophageal diagnostic evaluation and management. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed manuscripts in Gastroenterology, AJG, CGH, NGM, JNM, DOTE, DDS, JCG, APT, and JAMA, as well as chapters across multiple textbooks. Beyond clinical practice and research, Dr. Patel actively contributes to the Gastroenterology community through education, advocacy, and clinical guidance development. He has served as faculty and lectured for various ACG, AFS, AGA, ANMS, and ASGE conferences and courses, including the Tachi Yamada, MD Lecture at DDW. As primary author, Dr. Patel presented the AGA Membership Policy Priorities and Advocacy Agenda in Gastroenterology. He has also co-authored the ACG Clinical Guidelines on Esophageal Physiologic Testing, the AGA Clinical Guidelines on the Gastrointestinal Evaluation of Iron Deficiency Anemia, and the joint AGA-ACG Clinical Guidelines on the Pharmacologic Management of Constipation. He was awarded Fellowship in the ACG, elected to the Nominating Committee of the EGD Section of the AGA, and serves on the Editorial Review Board of Gastroenterology. |
